The First State Bank originated and was accepted by the
Department of Banking on June 27, 1931 with total assets under
$150,000.00. Under
stringent banking management and active participation in city,
school and community activities, the small business steadily grew.
A. G. Hermann, Sr. served as President of the First State
Bank during the 1930’s until his death in 1970.
He was succeeded by his son, A. G. Hermann, Jr. who served
from 1970 to 1977. Under
their direction were the talents of John Kvinta and his son, Charles
J. Kvinta, who served as Executive Vice Presidents.
Chairman of the Board A. G. Hermann, III, who served as
President from 1977 to 1986 and President Dennis O. Kutach state
that their concept of “serving the people” is reflected in the
helpful and friendly attitude of their employees.
Both of these gentlemen, as others before them, have devoted
many hours to help First State Bank fulfill this objective.
On April 11, 1997, First State Bank, Yoakum opened its first
branch, Community Bank of Moulton located in downtown Moulton at 112
S. Main. After almost a
year and a half, Community Bank of Moulton moved to its new building
located at 201 N. Lavaca.
First State Bank has come a long way from starting with total
assets of $150,000.00 in 1931 to assets of over $81 million at the
end of year 2000. First
State Bank is proud of the role it has played in the history of
Yoakum. The bank’s
motto, “First to Serve, First to Help” has fared well through
the years. We pledge to
continue to serve and help Yoakum, Moulton and surrounding
communities as we grow through the 21st century.
